Crate & Barrel
How do you improve on a design that is already designed very well?
In 2003 I was involved in a redesign of Crate & Barrel’s seasonal product catalogues. The catalogs needed to be cleaned up, tweaked, tightly organized and focussed. My strategy–don’t try to fit more on a page, reduce page content and make it stand out more with less and organize each spread by rooms. Each spread contained products in a Crate & Barrel furnished room–several different rooms, from the bathroom to the outside space.
